Bristol’s vegan scene has exploded recently, with new eateries opening every few months. This is great news for us, as we’ve just moved to the city, recently crowned vegan capital of the world! We’ve reviewed one of Bristol’s newest restaurants; Suncraft, a 100% vegan and gluten-free restaurant on Gloucester Road.
Pad Thai noodle salad with crunchy vegetables, bean sprouts & satay sauce
Dish Type: Main
Value: ££ (because the portion seemed small and not very filling)
This dish had a really delicious sauce and we enjoyed all the wonderful veggies and nuts. It was also a very light and fresh plate of food. However, we felt for a main course it need something extra. Perhaps some nice big bits of tofu on the top would’ve made it more filling.
Sweet potato & tempeh balls with butternut squash & cashew sauce
Dish Type: Side
We both really enjoyed this dish. The flavours were perfectly balanced and it wasn’t like anything we’d had before. The cashew sauce was a great accompaniment to the tempeh balls. We’d definitely order this again.
Kimchi & tofu fritters with Gochujang mayonnaise
Dish Type: Side
This was another great side dish. The texture in the centre of the fritter was soft and spongy with a crispy exterior, and the spicy Gochujang mayo had the just the right amount of kick to it.
Spiced banana doughnuts, ice cream, seasonal jam & almond praline
Dish Type: Dessert
This was my favourite dish we had. The doughnuts were cooked perfectly. They were so sweet and crispy on the outside with an unusual yet delicious soft doughy banana centre. The sweet, tropical flavoured ice cream also tasted very unusual, but when mixed with the jam and the doughnuts it created a delicious combination of flavours. This was an original, tasty and satisfying dessert.
