EDEN CAFE REVIEW

09.09.2020

A few weeks ago Freya and I decided to check out one of Bristol's newest vegan cafes, Eden Cafe. Located just around the corner from us in Clifton Village, Eden Cafe is a bright and clean space that's 100% plant-based! We've been there a couple of times now and have loved everything they serve, as well and enjoyed the company of Jon and Rosie who run Eden. Through simply talking with them, it's become clear that the cafe and vegan food is a huge passion they share. They're always so lovely, attentive, and up for a chat. They clearly care about their customers!

Nourish Bowl

Dish Type: Salad

Price: £7.95

Value: £

GF: N/A

Rating: 9/10

Pros: The nourish bowl is a combination of all the delicious salads they have on the day, and they change the salads frequently. Each salad feels like it's well-considered and works perfectly on its own, so when you add them all together it's such a delicious bowl! We especially loved the peanut butter sweet potatoes. It may sound like an unusual combination, but it works so well!

Cons: None

Sausage Roll

Dish Type: Savoury Pastry

Price: £2.50

Value: £

GF: No

Rating: 9/10

Pros: The pastry is crispy and light, nothing like the oily stuff you get from larger chains like Greggs. For the price, you get quite a large sausage roll, so if you wanted a light mid-afternoon snack this would be perfect. Freya and I shared it with the nourish bowl and they went together so well! The filling had caramelised onion and sage in, and it was totally delicious.

Cons: None

Ruben Sandwich

Dish Type: Sandwich

Price: £4.50

Value: £

GF: No

Rating: 10/10

Pros: This is the first time I've had vegan pastrami let alone a vegan Ruben sani, and it was amazing! Jon explained that the seitan is homemade and it takes 2 days to cure which makes it super delicious! The sandwich also had 2 different types of homemade vegan cheese, one that's lovely and melty and another that's like a Red Leicester. Everything is homemade, including the delicious sourdough rye bread! It's been a long time since I've been this impressed by a sandwich!

Cons: None, this was easily our favourite thing we tried.

Cookies and Cream Cupcake

Dish Type: Cake

Price: £3.50

Value: £

GF: No

Rating: 8/10

Pros: This cake was the perfect little treat to finish off our lunch trip to Eden. It was lovely and moist and well chocolatey. It's one of those cakes that you wouldn't know were vegan. And since there were no flaws to hide in the cake, they didn't fall into the trap of over-icing the cake. It was really lovely!

Cons: Again, nothing wrong here for us, but maybe a tad sweet for some.
